Taken yesterday at 1/1250 sec with a Canon 7D with a 300mm f/2.8 IS Lens in low light. These guys have mobbed my yard in search of drinking water. Thunderstorms formed to the east and then south of my home yesterday afternoon; we did not get a drop.

Actually is misread the rain gauge; we did get 0.10 inches of rain.

Things are hard to figure ! We’ve had record cold, snow, not much sun, and the Monarda that blooms in June decides to burst out. It is by a pond, and the Red-winged Blackbirds love to sit in this large patch. The daisies are also in full bloom, I think a little early also (by 2 weeks). I’m astounded that natural events happen the way they do – no logical explanation ! Photo taken last week with a Canon 7D and 300 f/2.8 lens by the pond across the road:

Despite the cold weather, and late spring, the red winged blackbirds are coming in flocks and roosting along the Little Buffalo River. I like this shot — because its hard to get a photo that distinguishes the back eye from the black feathers on this bird:
