There were long icicles around and about Roark Bluff at Steel Creek today and water was still high enough to float today. The ice in the sickles appeared aqua-blue in the late light today or maybe it was minerals.  The temperature started at 15F at 6:30 AM but rose to 50F by 2 PM; beautiful day in the mountains:

I put out, last year, with the help of a friend, electric heater elements in our water bird baths; using as GFI for safety. The Eastern bluebirds are drinking and bathing every day (some times 20-30 per day); all other feeder birds drink continuously in this cold dry air. They act almost frantic for water, so, please try to help them. The river is not far from me but they use little energy to drink cool water close by. This bluebird was drinking yesterday at 9 AM at a temperature of 9F. See the frost on the ground behind him.

I put some water out and the local Bluebirds jumped right in. Four at a time and one point !  They continued the splashing until dark:
