The deer were out grazing and active last evening. It was warm and I had the sprinkler on; they were first curious about it and then got closer and closer to be sprayed and try to  drink. There was one large buck and 3 does and a fawn. I caught one doe making a 25-30+ foot leap and landing across the driveway, using a Canon 1DS with Canon EF 600L f/4.0 IS lens.

Her Mom was bedded down in the tall grass in 95F degree heat (index 109F) and the young fawn was ready to play. She lays next to a large doe, that is her mother, and finally annoys her enough that she gets up out of the grass with her baby and grazes with her. They all are pretty covered with ticks, especially their ears:

Last evening about 6:30 a few does and one of the two fawns I am watching (they are weaned) came through the back yard. I had to take photos through the double-paned glass in my window, so they are not real clear:

This 17 day old fawn, has been hanging around the tall grasses in the yard. The fawn is insect bitten, wet, covered in ticks, and has a injured from left leg. It has rained and been cold for June for 14 of his/her 17 days. Never the less, she keeps on going and going and going !!

Born in the last 24 hours or so, then stashed by Mom in what she thinks is a safe place. She will be back tonight to nurse, preen, and move her beautiful new baby.  You can bet she’s watching him/her from a distance now !!!

This appears to be a doe and her fawn from last May; they still have a tight bond to each other; I love that look of nervousness and anticipation (tails up, flags up) they show when the enter the yard in Murray, Arkansas.
