A view of the river at the low-water bridge, upstream, and downstream. The river rose 5 feet overnight after the heavy storms that dumped a good 2+ inches of rain into the watershed:

Got 2 inches of rain last evening and some Severe Storms in the area. Reached about 70F on Tuesday prior to the storms around 5 PM until 7:30 PM. Got up early this morning and drove to Lost Valley to check on Clark Creek and Eden Falls. Aside from the sleet, accumulating at times and the windy cold weather (near freezing), it was beautiful. Hiked the 2.6 mile loop to Cob Cave before 10 AM.

There were about 120-150 Elk in the Boxley Valley bottom fields; it’s probably their instincts to get to higher ground during heavy rainfall.

The Boxley Mill Pond has been filled again and the beavers have reconstructed a large Dam and repaired their lodge just upstream from the dam:

Finding wild bird portraits, of birds not recently shown, is getting difficult. I can’t wait for our migratory birds, that summer here in Arkansas, to start returning in about 6 weeks. I am looking forward to spring 2013. I took these few photos yesterday in the backyard; a Carolina Chickadee, and Carolina Wren, a Purple Finch; a White Throated Sparrow, and a Purple Finch:

With lows in the low 20s today (Saturday), we are headed for some warmer and wetter weather in the coming week. We will see showers and Thunderstorms Monday and Tuesday with highs approaching the mid-70s, then some cool sunshine on Wed-Friday with highs in the 50s again: a return to more seasonable weather.  Not too bad !! Love these Arkansas winters. We really need the rain and I’m not sure how much we will get, but I’ll taken anything. The moon was full last night, with coyotes yipping and howling and some still hunting today at sun up:

This photo was taken last January at sun up using a Canon 50D and a Canon EF 400 DO IS f/4 Lens. I don’t think there is any doubt that we live in one of the most beautiful sections of Arkansas, the Ozarks, the Nation !!

These photos were taken yesterday afternoon in the beautiful 66F weather. These birds; a Northern Flicker and a Red-breasted Nuthatch were taken while on a peanut feeder and then the feeder was cropped out:

Thank you very much for continuing to look at my Blog. My hope for 2013 is to add better and more photos and to take the time to do a little writing about the life in the Valley.

Thanks Very much, Sincerely,

Steve

We have seen much colder here (2 years ago for instance), but 14F with z steady breeze has taken the WIND CHILL temperatures (bare skin) to near Zero F here in Murray Valley, or a little below; Actual air temperatures are below Zero around Kansas City.
